Doug Powell further adds that video game testing is a good place to start for young people who want to “break into the industry.”

Animators are in charge for coordinating the movement of video game characters.

But when the busy work is done, the video game animator will finally get a chance to do what he or she does best… animate. Micro-design involves creating the “actual levels and the moment-to-moment gameplay within those levels… the enemies, the objects, and the particular way you encounter those enemies and objects.”

Good game designers should obviously have an interest in video games along with some drawing and programming skills.

But many people don’t get much enjoyment from disciplined workouts.  They know they need regular cardiovascular exercise to stay heart-healthy, but what activities are there to steer clear of tedious typical exercise programs?

Ballroom dancing is performed with a partner (don’t worry; there are typically a number of “singles” taking lessons.  You’ll be able to pair off when you go to the lesson).  Everything from the internationally renowned waltz, to the classic American Foxtrot, to the Tango and cha-cha, fall into the category of ballroom dance.

Folk dancing typically refers to square dancing, contra dancing, or one of several Irish, Scottish, or English styles of dance.  Folk dances can sometimes be more social than ballroom dances (since partners typically split up and join with others during the course of the dance).

Latin Dancing is my dance of preference. It is similar to ballroom in that it is usually a partnered dance and there a good amount of singles that take the course as well. I know a good amount of people that met their significant other through the dance ( I am one of them). Some of the Latin Dances are Merengue, Bachata, Salsa, and Cumbia just to name a few. Other popular styles of dance include swing, Latin, traditional and many others.  Feel free to explore. Who knows you might find you significant other on the dance floor.

If you are in the Huntsville, AL area, you are in luck there are some great instructors especially in the Latin Dancing arena that can help you get started to have fun and lower your cholesterol.

If you’re looking for a great way to be heart-smart, stays fit, and meet new people, try dancing.  Dance lessons allow us to try something new, exercise, and take part in a social activity all at the same time.  Find a style that interests you, pick the appropriate skill level, find a place, and dance!

How do you appreciate yourself?  Or do you?  Did you learn that being good to yourself was selfish?  If you said ‘No’ were you bad?  If you praised yourself or were praised, were people afraid you might get a ‘swelled head’?

Most of us get the message loud and clear that praising ourselves or others would lead to ‘becoming conceited’ or ‘slacking off.’ The tragedy of this belief is that, in fact, the very opposite is true. What you pay attention to expands.

Self-appreciation and appreciation of others is based on love and acceptance. In other words, as I am willing to love me, I am capable of loving you.

Much of what we say and do is called ‘constructive criticism.’ This means I tell you something supposedly for ‘your own good.’  What actually happens is that I judge what you do and say based on ‘should’ then I tell you how to ‘do it right.’

In other words, criticism is destructive and leads people to feelings of inadequacy: love and acceptance lead to feelings of self-worth.  Remember: the most important task you have is loving and accepting yourself.

Self is defined as the entire person of an individual while appreciation is defined as a judgement or evaluation; an expression of admiration, approval, or gratitude.  Self-appreciation is about saying: ‘I accept myself exactly as I am.’  It is about acknowledging our unique gifts and knowing within each of us is a highly creative, skilled being just waiting for discovery.

Self-appreciation is not about putting others down or thinking yourself better; it is about loving ourselves the way we are and in turn loving others the way they are.  Remember: I can only accept and love you if I am willing to love and accept myself and acknowledge my own self-worth.

In the final analysis, as the Dalai Lama states, “The purpose of our lives is to be happy.”  Happiness in my mind equates with joy.  The joy, without which all other joy is diminished, is joy in one’s self.

Self-pride and self-joy are as vital to the individual as are air and water.  Self-appreciation is the cornerstone in determining one’s health, one’s success, and one’s abundance and prosperity in both our public and our private lives.

People have come to me often wondering why they are having a hard time finding their own place of well-being or inner calm. So I’m always looking for the hard facts. Specifically, my curiosity has always been around complete well-being: not just physical health, or financial wealth, beauty or balanced weight, and not just a healthy mind, but all of them put together. The real questions have always been how do we create complete well-being for ourselves and how do we teach it to others?

My basic premise is that complete well-being begins with building positive emotions where no emotions or negative emotions exist. Pure and simple, our history, upbringing, friends, family and many other factors play into the types of emotions that have become habitual for each of us.

Sometimes lack of complete well-being stems from a build-up of lots of habitual negative emotions that fuel more negative emotions. In a way, it is founded entirely in not knowing what complete well-being feels like (or not knowing what it is like to live with an abundance of positive emotions).

I look for evidence of my theory everywhere. Sometimes I find it in one of my kids, other times in myself, and sometimes I even find it in complete strangers. Today I find it in my reading:

One article submitted towards the topic of ‘the science of well-being: integrating neurobiology, psychology and social science’ by Martin E. P. Seligman, Acacia C. Park, and Tracy Steen in the Royal Journal says: “Results from a new randomized, placebo-controlled study demonstrate that people are happier and less depressed three months after completing exercises targeting positive emotion. The ultimate goal of positive psychology is to make people happier by understanding and building positive emotion, gratification and meaning.”

Another article, this one submitted by Barbara L. Fredrickson says, “The broaden-and-build theory describes the form and function of a subset of positive emotions, including joy, interest, contentment and love. A key proposition is that these positive emotions broaden an individual’s momentary thought-action repertoire: joy sparks the urge to play, interest sparks the urge to explore, contentment sparks the urge to savour and integrate, and love sparks a recurring cycle of each of these urges within safe, close relationships.” In other words, positive emotions spark more positive emotions.

Both of these articles support my theory that complete well-being can be learned and that we’re all capable of living in a state of complete-well being, if only we set our intention to live there and learn how to create new positive thinking.

The reality is that working towards a state of complete well-being is a process — one that never ends because life throws us new challenges every day and we have to find new ways to regain our balance. However, once you realize that this wonderful place of health, inner wealth, and richness can exist for you if only you know the secret, you are halfway home.

I want to welcome you back to the series that was started last week called, “Learn To Respect The Power of Vision For You and Your Team“. We last left off talking about seven ideas to help build vision. In part 1 we covered two of the seven. Learn To Respect The Power of Vision For You and Your Team Idea #3: Create a Sacred, Inner Space to Go Deeper

The vision you create for your practice begins in your mind and heart.  It is something you can feel, taste, see, hear and touch with your soul.

Creating a supportive, inner environment is a powerful way to aid you in developing your vision.  To access the inner depths of your mind and heart, find a way to retreat to a serene and tranquil place where your mind is free of the “outer noise”.

In this sacred space, your heart, mind, and soul can more easily access what might be called Source.  What you can find there is your most Authentic Self.  Tap into this successfully, and your vision is likely to spring forth easily.

Though your mind may resist with every fiber of its being, try surrender into this emptiness.  Check your brain out at the door. A Zen master once said, “You already are that which you seek.”  But you’ll find it much easier to uncover that if you are relaxed and can get your mind out of the way.
Learn To Respect The Power of Vision For You and Your Team Idea #4: Ask (the Right) Questions

Ask the questions that provoke and encourage answers to the deeper questions.  These might include:

•    What is the single most important thing my practice needs to go to the next level and further help my customers best?
•    What are the three most important actions I need to take in order to increase my sales or income?
•    What are the three most important changes I need to make in order to help me and/or my clients accomplish my/their objectives?
•    What is the single biggest challenge that – if resolved – would most help me or my clients.

 

Learn To Respect The Power of Vision For You and Your Team Idea #5: Identity the Problems Holding You Back

Sometimes we’re just plain stuck.  What about you?  Where are your points of “stuck-ed-ness”?    Discussing it with others – especially your coach and MasterMind team – is a powerful way to uncover the detours around or through the roadblocks holding you back from developing your vision.

There are times when we must first clear the rocks off the trail before we can continue on our path of self-discovery.  Moving these out of the way helps unblock the energy flow, enabling us to more easily tap into the Source for answers.

Learn To Respect The Power of Vision For You and Your TeamLearn To Respect The Power of Vision For You and Your Team Idea #6: Take Action and “Go For It!”

Nothing happens without action.  Once you have come up with a Vision that seems to fit well, ACT ON IT.  It might not be perfect, but if it’s “good enough”, then get going!  You can always “course correct”.

Don’t get bogged down in thinking about HOW you’re going to get there. Momentum is a powerful force, perhaps THE most important force when you’re first embarking for your Vision.

A sailor on a long voyage can never know for sure the exact course they will take to their destination.  He/she will need to constantly make corrections for winds, current, and unforeseen challenges along the route.  In the same way, you can tweak and adapt your own journey.

Learn To Respect The Power of Vision For You and Your Team Idea #7: K.I.S.S. (Keep It Short & Simple)

Once you have a pretty good idea of your vision, simplify it.  Keep honing it down and find ways to bring more clarity.  Be brutal; in fact go for what is sometimes call “brutal clarity of purpose”.

There is a nice analogy between a vision and a powerful photo.  A very successful studio photographer was asked how he consistently came up with powerful photos. He responded, “Once I’ve got all the elements in the photo that I think I need, I start taking away from it.  If I remove or simplify an element or item and it helps, I keep the change.  I continue this process with everything I can until it hurts the overall image. That’s when I know I’ve got my image.”

The lesson: try simplifying or removing extraneous parts of your vision.  Ask yourself, “Does it help – or hinder?  If it helps, keep the change.  If it doesn’t, put it back.  Continue with this process until you have the best picture you can.

Developing a Vision and acting on it is one of the most essential steps to creating a successful coaching practice.  It is also one of the most powerful services you can offer your clients in helping them manifest their fullest potential.

Try these 7 ideas to help you do this.  If something works for you, use it!  If it doesn’t, discard it.  We all have our own best ways of finding and developing our Vision.  What matters most is that you do it, then act on it.
